縱觀古代東方聖哲的智慧，一個共同的主題始終貫穿其中：人生短暫，使一切以自我為中心的雄心壯志都終究歸於徒然。 “虛空”詞譯自希伯來文 “הֶבֶל” （發音hɛ.vɛl），其意包括“虛空”、“氣息”、“雲霧”、“徒然”與“空無”。 《虛空》 帶我們光回溯到東方聖哲早約五個世紀的所羅門王的宮殿中從猶太智慧傳統的視角，欣賞這番道理。
